Pledge your support, Help Firefox create a record.

Been a fan of Mozilla Firefox since the day I started using it. Just fell in love with the features and the best part is I am still in love 😛

Now about the record attempt, the guys back at Mozilla, along with the much anticipated release of Firefox 3, also want to set a Guiness Record of the “most downloaded software in 24 hours”. With a dedicated fan base spread across continents, I don’t see this not happening, they should easily be able to beat the current record.

Just to make sure that you remember to download your favourite browser the day it is officially released, the folks back at Mozilla have created a pledge page on Spread Firefox site. Make sure you go there, pledge your support so that you can be reminded about being a part of that record.
Download Day
Don’t be evil! At least this time around. Go get firefox.

Funny CAPTCHA

Your first question would be what the hell is CAPTCHA or CHACHACHA or whatever it is???

A CAPTCHA (IPA: /’kæpt??/) is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to determine whether the user is human. “CAPTCHA” is a contrived acronym for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart”, trademarked by Carnegie Mellon University. The process involves one computer (a server) asking a user to complete a simple test which the computer is able to generate and grade, but not able to solve on its own. Because computers are unable to solve the CAPTCHA, any user entering a correct solution is presumed to be human.

The term CAPTCHA was coined in 2000 by Luis von Ahn, Manuel Blum, Nicholas J. Hopper (all of Carnegie Mellon University), and John Langford (then of IBM). A common type of CAPTCHA requires that the user type the letters of a distorted image, sometimes with the addition of an obscured sequence of letters or digits that appears on the screen.

Ok, now coming to the real point. You may have seen lots and lots of CAPTCHA images but I am pretty sure you would never have seen such a funny one. Check this one from facebook:

Great Firewall of China

Posted in blog, Evil with tags , , on October 9, 2007 by urdamned

Our evil friends at china are just too good. They block any site they dont want people to see. So people got smarter and started using RSS feeds to get news/information they wanted but couldnt access. Now the authorities back in China have gone ahead one more level and have blocked even access to RSS feeds. They blocked all URL that start with feed, rss or blog. This makes countless websites and pretty much all feeds which have syndicated with FeedBurner inaccessible to the poor, not so evil chinese people.

The only hope now seems to be anonymizers or proxies. Lets see what our chinese government friends do…

p.s: I doubt they will ever read this, because wordpress too would be blocked there… 😛 thanks to the Great Firewall of China
