The most expensive part of the Google Homepage

Posted in Evil, google, homepage, internet with tags , , , , on November 23, 2007 by urdamned

This is a really evil thing that the guys in “Dont be evil” foundation are doing to themselves. Yeah you guessed it right we are talking about none other than Google. Google cofounder Sergey Brin told public radio’s Marketplace that around one percent of all Google searches go through the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button.

ju

Wondering what is so evil about it and whats the big deal???

Because of this button  the user is directly taken to the top search result, i,e Google doesn’t get to show search ads on one percent of all its searches. That costs the company around $110 million in annual revenue, according to Rapt’s Tom Chavez.

So why does Google keep such a costly button around?

“It’s possible to become too dry, too corporate, too much about making money. I think what’s delightful about ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ is that it reminds you there are real people here,” Google exec Marissa Mayer explained, or at least tried to.

Interesting isnt it??? Probably its the lesser evil philosophy they are following these days, just like the lesser evil thing they did in China. Good atleast they are doing it to themselves… 😛

Another Windows error – Calcuator can calculate

Posted in Evil, Microsoft, Technology with tags , , on November 13, 2007 by urdamned

We love our evil buddies at microsoft. But they recently added to their list of errors with a discovery that windows basic calculator cant calculate correctly.  It doesnt even follow the basic rule that multiplication preceeds addition.
Check this out, try doing a simple calculation 4+4*4, it gives an answer 32 where as actually it must have given 20.

Silly eh? But its true! Check it yourself.

Luckily the scientific calculator option works correctly.

Saawariya VS Om Shanti Om(OSO)

Well, its diwali time again and this time its the rat race between Saawariya and OSO for supremacy over the box office in India. Yes, any new channel you see, any music channel you see, any saans-bahu soap you see, the movie promotions and publicity stunts are un-missable. Be it talk shows where the stars are talking about how different their films are going to be or be it dance shows where they are shaking a leg just for some cheap publicity. Talking of publicity, rediff and indiatimes have been doing their own cover stories on how SRK challenges Saawariya or how we are not going to see Ranbir Kapoor’s bum in India. The best comment probably was by Sanjay Leela Bansali that the cutting of the scene in which Ranbir’s bottom was to been, shown doesnt effect the continuity of the movie. Ahm well…. !! whatever that meant. Meanwhile you could see all star parents be it Anil Kapoor or Rishi Kapoor-Nitu Singh promoting their new kids on the block. Deepika padukone being linked with Dhoni, uff anhoni. Publicity! Publicity! And yeah, I am not going to talk about SRK’s six-pack abs here. 😛 ew!

Phew! Indian cinema has come a long way, where movies were just made and left for the public to decide whether they are going to be successful or not. Nowadays, there is so much promotion that the junta is going crazy. Every reviewer has their own reviews and brilliant ( often paid) comments on movies, critics who we dont even know are effecting which movie we are going to see. The public in the meanwhile is in a tizzy, in a ticket buying frenzy. A ticket for OSO or Saawariya can make or break a weekend(or much more)  😛 wow!! The movie hall guys are not complaining and have increased the pricies the poor (subjective) public has to pay for the tickets. Opportunism! yeah rite, just like the movie stars and every body else.

And if you did get the tickets yet, dont try in the near future, coz you will definitely not get it.  Evil Laughter. If you got it, then let me know how the movies were. Reviews help, especially unpaid ones.

For some web reviews of Saawariya try here  and for Om Shant Om here

P.s: Saawariya stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee and OSO stars Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Shreyas Talpade. The former is directed by Farah Khan and the latter by Sanjay Leela Bansali.
